Enhanced General Education

Proposal Information

Anyone wishing to propose a course for the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵGeneral Education should do so via the  (you can login with your NetID and password). You are strongly encouraged to visit the Curriculog Tutorial site for information on how to use the system.

All courses wishing certify as general education for Fall 2026 will go through a legislative pre-review and then a full faculty review. For the pre-review, the following information will be requested in the proposal:

  • Course title 
  • Course description
  • Student Learning Outcomes
  • Course textbook and/or readings 
  • Course requisites (if applicable) 
  • Desired general education discipline 
  • Copy of course syllabus

Once a course passes the pre-review then it is routed back to the proposer so they can add the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵGeneral Education components. For that part of the proposal, the following information will be required: 

-  Choose two of the critical skill domains to add to the course (Critical/Analytical Thinking,
   Communication, Problem Solving) 

-  Choose up to three enhancements to add to the course (Civic Engagement, Information
    and Data Literacy, Creative Thinking, Quantitative Reasoning, Cultural Competence,
    Experiential Learning 

-   Provide information on how these skills will be assessed 

Proposal Deadlines

Proposals for Fall 2026 should be submitted during Spring 2025 so they can be reviewed during Summer 2025. This will allow the course list to be sent to the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵBoard of Trustees in August 2025. 

Proposals for Fall 2027 should be submitted during Fall 2025 and Spring 2026. This will allow them to be submitted to the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵBoard of Trustees in June 2026.

General Education course lists are due to the DOE Articulation Coordinating Committee on September 1st of each year. They then submit to the Florida Board of Governors on December 1st of each year. The SUS should receive approved gen ed lists for the upcoming catalog year in January of that year. 

Required Syllabus Statement

Every course certified in the General Education must include one of the following syllabus statements, depending on that course's situation:

  1. Course is State Core 
    a. This course is a Florida state core general education course certified for [Identify state core discipline]. Students enrolled in this course may be asked to participate in the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵGeneral Education assessment effort. This will involve submitting copies of writing assignments for review via Canvas. 
  2. Course is ONLY gen ed for Fall 2025 and did not go through full vetting process 
    a. This course is part of the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ's General Education Curriculum for students who entered the university under the 2025-2026 catalog year. It is certified for [Identify Gen Ed Discipline]. Students enrolled in this course will be asked to participate in the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵGeneral Education assessment effort. This will involve submitting copies of writing assignments for review via Canvas. 

  3. Course is ONLY Enhanced Gen Ed 
    a. This course is part of the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ's Enhanced General Education Curriculum for students who entered the university prior to the 2025-2026 catalog year. It is certified for [Identify Core Area]. Students enrolled in this course will be asked to participate in the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵGeneral Education assessment effort. This will involve submitting copies of writing assignments for review via Canvas. 

  4. Course is being used for BOTH students under Enhanced Gen Ed and new 2025 gen ed and did not go through full vetting process. 
    a. This course is part of the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ's General Education Curriculum for students who entered the university under the 2025-2026 catalog year AND can also count for students under Enhanced General Education who entered the university prior to the 2025-2026 catalog year. It is certified for [Identify Gen Ed Discipline]. Students enrolled in this course will be asked to participate in the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵGeneral Education assessment effort. This will involve submitting copies of writing assignments for review via Canvas.

  5. Course is certified for gen ed for Fall 2026 and went through full vetting process. 
    a. This course is part of the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ's General Education Curriculum for students who entered the university after Fall 2025. It is certified under the state discipline area of [Identify Gen Ed Discipline]. It also includes the following ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵenhancements: [list out additional enhancements]. Students enrolled in this course will be asked to participate in the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵGeneral Education assessment effort. This will involve submitting copies of writing assignments for review via Canvas.
