Honors Music Programs
The Judy Genshaft Honors College offers students many opportunities to explore their passions in music and the creative arts through multiple ensembles open to all Honors students. Each ensemble is led by an Honors faculty member with musical experience specific to the needs of the group.
Ensembles participate in at least one public performance per semester and are regularly invited to perform at other university events alongside ensembles from the 国产短视频School of Music and the Tampa Bay community. Participating in two semesters of an Honors music ensemble can satisfy one of the Experiential Learning requirements in the college.
Current Honors ensemble offerings include:
- Honors Choir
- Honors Orchestra
- The Contemporary Music Ensemble (CME)
Honors Choir
The Honors Choir exists to be a welcoming, creative, collaborative, and non-competitive musical space for Honors students who are interested in singing in a choral music context. The primary focus is on the preparation and performance of ensemble-oriented vocal music. The choir performs regularly at the Honors Convocation at the beginning of the fall semester, in the university-wide winter concert once a year, and offers a performance in the college once each semester. No audition required.

Honors Orchestra

The Honors Orchestra is a flexible and inviting space open to Honors students at all levels of musical proficiency. The orchestra explores repertoire in both classical and popular styles and has regularly performed pieces composed by students in the ensemble. The orchestra performs at least once each semester. No audition required.

The Contemporary Music Ensemble
The Contemporary Music Ensemble (CME) is for students who want to learn and perform the pop/rock/jazz music of the last 75 years. Each semester, CME builds a song repertoire around a theme (such as singer/songwriter, the Beatles, the 1980s, or Motown). While open to all instruments and stylistic experiences, the priority is the basic building blocks of contemporary music: drums, bass, guitar, keyboard/piano, and voice. Alongside those building blocks, CME welcomes applications from other instrumentalists and those with experience in electronic music production, including DJing and digital. Students must apply before being permitted to register. CME鈥檚 main performance is a live video and audio recording session, though it may perform publicly in other contexts as well.

College Studio Spaces
The Honors College has multiple studio spaces on the 5th floor, including a video production studio, a multimedia-recording suite, and a music-rehearsal studio. The first floor of the college is also a flexible performance space, equipped with state-of-the-art sound and video equipment and a Steinway grand piano.
Piano Hours
Students who wish to maintain their piano skills can apply to use the Boston upright piano in the music studio. Students access the scheduling system through the Honors Student Portal and sign up for hour-long timeslots to play the piano for personal enjoyment or practice.
Studio Recording Hours
Schedule a timeslot in the multimedia studio to record a podcast for class or to record a song or other performance. Students can also sign up to access our recording and editing workstations and use professional microphones, equipment, and software to create music and other content for class or personal use.
Students must complete the Multimedia Studio Canvas Training course before signing up for a timeslot.
Note: The 3rd floor computer lab also has two Mac Mini鈥檚 with Adobe Premier, Adobe Audition, and Apple鈥檚 Logic Pro X Digital Audio Workstation for film or audio production and editing projects.
