Peter J. Fabri, MD, PhD

Peter J. Fabri M.D., Ph.D., FACS, has been fortunate to be exposed to a large number of very talented people and has been allowed to participate and collaborate in areas that have not been part of the traditional role of a surgeon. These have allowed him to become closely acquainted with Total Quality Management and Continuous Quality Improvement, Adult Competency Based Education, Medical Informatics, Legal Issues in Academics, Probability and Statistics, Computer Programming, Negotiations, Outcome Assessment, Operational Research, Analytics, and many others. He has also had the opportunity to collaborate with academic colleagues in non-medical disciplines. This has allowed him to broaden his horizons and to introduce concepts that are common in these fields but foreign to medicine. To the faculty in the Graduate School (Laboratory Medicine), Colleges of Education (Instructional Technology), Arts and Sciences (Industrial Organizational Psychology), Engineering (Industrial Engineering and Management) and to the graduate students Dr. Fabri has been privileged to advise and mentor, he bestows a great deal of thanks for the insights he has gained. He has completed a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering at the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ, which allowed him to develop an in-depth knowledge of systems and processes, optimization, project management, experimental design, complex industrial statistics, and industrial-organizational psychology (training). He has developed programs in the colleges of Engineering and Medicine in the new hybrid discipline of "Health Systems Engineering" and teaches actively in both colleges.

Within the academic medical environment, Dr. Fabri has held leadership positions in federal, state, city, and private institutions as well as in national professional organizations. He has directed medical school courses in all four years of the curriculum, served as program director of two surgical residencies, served as the Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education, associate dean for Clinical Affairs, associate dean for GME, and associate dean for VA Affairs as well as chair of the Field Advisory Council for Surgery of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Within clinical medicine, he has served as chief of surgery, chief of general surgery, director of surgical intensive care, and has been credentialed in surgery, surgical oncology, surgical endocrinology, and critical care medicine.

Within the world of organized medicine, He has served in the activities of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Education, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American Association of Medical Colleges, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Steering Committee of the Group on Resident Affairs of the AAMC and the Governing Council of the Section on Medical Schools of the AMA. Currently, he served as a member of the Residency Review Committee in Surgery from 2006 to 2012

Stuart Hart, MD, FACOG, FACS

Stuart Hart, MD, MBA, MS is the Director of Global Medical Affairs for Medtronic Surgical Innovations and a Voluntary Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ Morsani College of Medicine. He completed medical school at the University of Maryland, completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Emory University and completed a Pelvic Surgery Fellowship at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Hart is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American College of Surgeons. He completed the 18-month Leadership Institute Program in the Center for Transformation and Innovation (CTI) at the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ College of Medicine and is currently enrolled in the Master of Science Degree in Entrepreneurship in Applied Technologies at the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ Muma College of Business. He also completed the Regulatory Affairs in Medical Devices Certificate Program through the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering within the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵCollege of Engineering. He currently serves as the medical director of the Tampa Bay Research and Innovation Center (TBRIC) and director of the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ Center for the Advancement of Minimally-Invasive Pelvic Surgery (CAMPS). He is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American College of Surgeons, American Urogynecologic Society, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, International Urogynecologic Association and the American College of Physician Executives. In 2012, he won the Cade Museum Prize for Innovation (1st place out of 120 technologies throughout the State of Florida) and was awarded the Excellence in Innovation Award by the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵOffice of Research and Innovation. In 2010, he was awarded the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) National Faculty Award for Excellence in Residency Education and won first place in the Innovative Technology Challenge in the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵCenter for Entrepreneurship.

Dr. Hart's main research interests include anatomic image-based research, medical simulation education and training, and development of innovative medical technologies and devices. He is currently the Co-Principle Investigator on a Binational Industrial Research and Development grant with Simbionix Corporation, to develop the world's first computerized hysterectomy training simulator. He is also very involved in developing educational and surgical training courses for physicians and has been the course director for over 10 national CME programs.

Michael Fountain, Ph.D., MBA

Michael Fountain holds three faculty appointments at USF, serving as the John & Beverley Grant Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship, a professor in the College of Engineering, and a professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine. He currently serves as founding director of USF's Center for Entrepreneurship and the Director for university-wide, interdisciplinary entrepreneurship education programs. The Center's national prominence is evidenced by receipt of top national awards in 2004, 2005, and 2006 and is ranked among the top 25 best graduate entrepreneurship programs by Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine for the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵgraduate entrepreneurship education programs in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Dr. Fountain also serves as the executive director of the Tampa Bay Research and Innovation Center (TBRIC) housed at the USF Center for Advanced Medical and Learning Simulation (CAMLS) located in downtown Tampa.

An expert in creating, financing, and growing biotechnological, medical device, and life science companies, Dr. Fountain founded or co-founded seven new ventures (three later publicly traded companies) and patented and commercialized numerous innovative medical and diagnostic products (including sustained release anti-cancer drugs, genetically engineered diagnostic products for autoimmune diseases, microencapsulated dermatologic products and vaccine products for prevention of human and animal infectious disease). He was a pioneer in the development and application of the use of phospholipids in micro- and nano-particle technologies for drug encapsulation. Dr. Fountain has been instrumental in the development and deploying of entrepreneurial programs on an international level. He has served as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation overseeing strategy, venture capital and private equity, and life sciences entrepreneurship.

Fountain received an Honors BS from Samford University, MS, and Ph.D. from Auburn University, and MBA from Bristol University. He also completed advanced studies in education theory at USF. During his corporate career, he served in leadership roles including the chief scientific officer, chief executive officer and chairman of the board. Currently, Dr. Fountain serves on numerous advisory boards relating to the fields of biotechnology and life sciences.

Devashsih Das, Ph.D.

Dr. Das is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India and received a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He served as an Assistant Professor of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at USF for over 3 years before joining Amazon in 2022. Dr. Das’ research areas include stochastic optimization and queueing theory. Dr. das has published in top journals and graduated one PhD student during his tenure at USF.
