Doctor of Philosophy

The Ph.D. program in Curriculum Instruction with a concentration in Counselor Education is designed for masters-level counselors interested in pursuing a degree that focuses on developing advanced research skills, clinical supervision skills, and teaching practice. The doctoral major emphasizes research as opposed to clinical skill development and is designed primarily for students who wish to advance to a career in an academic institution.

The CACREP-aligned program consists of a minimum of 60 credit hours of blended coursework (online, hybrid, and in-person) in core counselor education, research, a student-selected cognate, and dissertation hours.  This selective and intensive program can be completed in 2.5-3 years of full-time study. The program enrolls up to 5-7 incoming students each year. Applications are due by February 14, and Interviews typically occur in mid-March.
