M.A. Spanish

The Master of Arts in Spanish

The Master of Arts in Spanish offers students academic and practical training in the languages, literatures, and cultures of the Spanish-speaking communities of Spain, Latin America, and the United States. Our faculty members bring a strong interdisciplinary focus to both scholarship and teaching, and our courses cover a wide variety of topics in all areas and historical periods. These include, among others, Hispanic linguistics, colonial Spanish American literature, medieval and renaissance Spain, contemporary Spanish film and culture, transatlantic studies, or 19th- & 20th-century Latin American literature.

Teaching Spanish

Whether you are pursuing your dream of becoming a teacher or interested in receiving some financial help to complete your studies, the Master of Arts in Spanish provides you with the opportunity to be employed as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and gain valuable training as a teacher of Spanish language and culture. Our TAs receive a 100% tuition waiver and are put in charge of teaching one or two sections of Spanish courses per semester. Accordingly, a vital part of our program involves courses in teaching methodology and linguistics, and it involves practical classroom experience under the supervision of a faculty member. If you are applying to the Spanish MA Program and are interested in a Graduate Assistantship, please contact the Graduate Program Director: Dr. David Arbes煤.
