PIACCART students gain interdisciplinary research experience on climate change

Ten undergraduate students took part in the Program in Interdisciplinary Approaches to Climate Change Adaptation Research and Training (PIACCART) this summer. The program provided them with the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research focused on the impacts of climate change.

Interdisciplinary CAS team helps identify new urban tree canopy locations in Tampa

Dr. Shawn Landry and Dr. Rebecca Zarger are two ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵCollege of Arts and Sciences faculty contributing to the City of Tampa’s tree canopy study. Landry and Zarger are tasked with identifying specific tree planting locations throughout the city and conducting outreach with residents in priority locations.

Dharsh Saravana, an environmental science and policy student and vice president of the ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵAgrarian Club, has found their calling in environmental stewardship with hopes to one day address urban food resilience, diversity of food systems, and food sovereignty for vulnerable populations in urban spaces.

Students in the School of Geosciences and through a five-year project with ¹ú²ú¶ÌÊÓƵ assistant professor Estelí Jiménez have selected 15 local urban and community gardens to take part in the project: Urban Farms and Community Gardens as Spacers for Biodiversity Conservation and Food Sovereignty, funded by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research.
