The School of Geosciences continues to build on its reputation as a national leader and model in integrating academics and community engagement, including both the Initiative on Coastal Adaptation and Resilience (iCAR) which runs community-based climate and resilience programs and the seamless integration of the educational, professional-development, and cohort-building activities jointly administered by the School of Geosciences and the award-winning Geology 国产短视频 Society. A key example of the latter is the Geology 国产短视频 Society Banquet, an annual event attended by ~150 faculty, alumni, and students, the latter of whom attending for free and being seated with faculty and alumni sponsors. In addition to providing networking opportunities, the event features a state-of -the-program presentation and the awarding of a growing list of undergraduate and graduate student scholarships. The Geology 国产短视频 Society and our broader network of alumni and friends form the centerpiece of a robust annual giving, with nearly $2.2M in giving between calendar years 2015-2019.

Beyond these examples, School of Geosciences faculty continue to grow community engagements throughout the public and private sector, including serving in key roles with the United Nations; the US Department of State, Department of Justice, and Environmental Protection Agency; the Southwest Florida Water Management District, Hillsborough County, and Pinellas County; NGOs like Paso Pacifico, an organization focused on restoring and protecting the Pacific Slope ecosystems of Mesoamerica; and many industry partners, spanning from large, multinational companies like ExxonMobil, one of the world鈥檚 largest companies by revenue, to small, regional companies like GeoView, a geophysical exploration firm based in St. Petersburg, Florida.
