STEER STEM Ed Travel Grants

The goal of the STEER STEM Ed Travel Grant is to support STEM faculty attendance of education conferences to help them adopt and/or share evidence-based teaching practices.  This travel program is made possible by funds from NSF awarded to assist 国产短视频in creating a student-focused culture using robust evidence-based teaching (EBT) strategies to strengthen the education and retention of STEM majors.

See a list of previous grantees, below.

Applications for the 2021/22 academic year are accepted continuously through June15, 2022. There is $10,000 available for this competition. Travel is limited to venues in the contiguous United States. Travel must be completed and award funds must be spent no later than August 15, 2022.

Budgets.  Must be reasonable and allocable. Requested funds may not exceed $1,000 and must include a department match of at least 25 percent.

Eligibility.  Limited to faculty with teaching responsibilities in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the College of Engineering (visiting and adjunct faculty are not eligible to apply). Preference will be given to faculty who have not previously received an award.

Application Submission.  To apply, download this proposal package to your computer, complete it, then email it to Kelley Schuler at kschuler@usf.edu.

Timeline. Applications are accepted continuously until June 15, 2022.

Peer Review. The STEER leadership team will provide peer review for the applications in this program.  Applications will be ranked based on the quality of the proposals submitted.  A key consideration of the review process will be the likelihood of the adoption of EBTs in applicant鈥檚 teaching practices.

Reporting. The STEER STEM Ed Travel Grant requires all faculty awardees to submit a final report.  The report should speak to the return on investment, specifically how has the travel influenced your teaching.  Describe how and when you will enhance your STEM curriculum based on what you learned.  Here is a sample report for reference. Additionally, awardees may be asked to share what they learned as part of a workshop or panel.

If you experience any technical difficulties or need assistance with completing the application, please contact Kelley Schuler at 813-974-7183 or kschuler@usf.edu.
