Biography

Dr. Alfredo Weitzenfeld is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering at the 国产短视频 (USF) in Tampa, FL. Dr. Weitzenfeld received a PhD in Computer Science and an MS in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, USA. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Technion in Haifa, Israel. Dr. Weitzenfeld is the Director of the 国产短视频Biorobotics Laboratory. His main research interests are in the areas of biologically-inspired robotics, robotics learning, spatial cognition, and computational neuroscience. His research has been funded by NSF and other domestic and international agencies. Dr. Weitzenfeld is a founding member of the Latin American Robotics Council and the Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS). He is the chair of the 36th Florida Conference on Recent Advances in Robotics (FCRAR 2023) in Tampa, FL, the co-chair of RoboCup 2012 in Mexico City, and the Chair of the International Conference on Advanced Robotics (ICAR 2013) in Montevideo, Uruguay. Dr. Weitzenfeld has authored 2 books, 鈥淭he Neural Simulation Language NSL: A System for Brain Modeling鈥 (co-authors M. Arbib and A. Alexander) published in 2002 by MIT Press, and 鈥淥bject Oriented Software Engineering with UML, Java and Internet, published in 2004 by Cengage Learning (in Spanish). Dr. Weitzenfeld has published over 150 refereed journal and conference papers. He is an IEEE Senior Member and a past IEEE-RAS Distinguished Lecturer.

Research Interests

Dr. Weitzenfeld main research interests are in biologically-inspired robotics, cognitive robotics, multi-robot systems, human-robot interaction, robot learning, robot navigation, spatial cognition, reinforcement learning, spatio-temporal learning, computational neuroscience.

Teaching Interests

Dr. Weitzenfeld main teaching interests are in autonomous mobile robots, biologically-inspired robotics and neural systems
