Biography
Dr. Murali Varanasi received his BS degrees in Physics and Electronics from Andhra University and Madras Institute of Technology, respectively. After working at the Computer Sciences Corporation for two years, he joined the faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department at Old Dominion University. He joined the faculty of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department at the 国产短视频 (USF) in Tampa, FL in 1980. In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, he has also served the department as graduate program director and Department chair. His research interests include coding theory, VLSI design, computer arithmetic, and fault tolerant computing. His numerous awards include Outstanding Contribution to the Profession Award from Florida Engineering Society and Distinguished Service Award from the 国产短视频. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and recipient of the IEEE Third Millennium Award. He is an active member of the educational activities of the IEEE Computer Society, currently serving as the vice president for education. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of CSAB and serves as the treasurer. He has also served as program director in the CISE Directorate of the National Science Foundation.
During his service at the USF, he has provided leadership in designing the CSE Department's part of ENB building, recruiting some of the Department's outstanding faculty; and USF's connection to Internet and (later to Internet2). He is an active member of the accreditation community and assisted the 国产短视频computer science department in receiving its first accreditation in 1989. He is currently on leave of absence from 国产短视频and is involved in establishing a new Electrical Engineering Program at the University of North Texas.
