Dr. Wenyu Guo at an NCTE meeting.

Dr. Wenyu Guo Selected as an Awardee by the NCTE Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Program

Wenyu Guo, Ph.D., an assistant professor of Literacy Studies in the College of Education at the 国产短视频, Tampa, has been selected as an awardee by the for 2024 - 2025. This prestigious award not only recognizes her scholarly excellence but also provides a unique learning opportunity. As a part of this incredible honor, Wenyu will work with experienced NCTE mentors and build a valuable nationwide professional learning network.

This summer (July 12-14), she traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend the ECEOC Summer Institute, where she joined her leadership scholar cohort led by Dr. Jeanine M. Staples-Dixon from Pennsylvania State University alongside distinguished scholars and educators from K-12 schools across the country. Together, they engaged in in-depth discussions and immersive learning activities, fostering a sense of shared learning and growth.

During this time, Wenyu received valuable mentorship on her new research project. This one-year community-engaged participatory action project will examine how elementary-aged Asian American children, and their parents can learn and unlearn together in a community space regarding issues of race and racism through an innovative curriculum. NCTE will sponsor her to present her research at the 2025 NCTE Annual Convention.

Wenyu had the opportunity to meet NCTE President Rochelle Rodrigo and Executive Director Emily Kirkpatrick, who shared insights about opportunities for early-career NCTE scholars, leading innovative research, connecting with local K-12 educators, and how NCTE bridges the gap between theory and practice. In addition, she had the privilege of engaging in roundtable discussions with NCTE affiliate leaders, an honor that underscored her respected position in the field.

This has been a fantastic journey for Dr. Guo, and she is excited to apply what she has learned and to continue to grow as an educator and researcher at USF.
