Aging studies doctoral students host virtual chat on parenting in academia

Lewis and Elayoubi are doctoral students in the 国产短视频School of Aging Studies.

School of Aging Studies doctoral students Joanne Elayoubi, MA and Charity Lewis, MA co-hosted a virtual Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization informal chat on the benefits and challenges of being a parent in academia. The chat focused on promoting parent-friendly environments in academic and/or research settings, developing better communication skills with mentors/employers regarding parenting and work balance, and identifying ways to better address the possible stigma associated with parenthood and academia. It was open to individuals who are parents, hoping to be parents, and individuals who want to support colleagues who are parents.
