Jacqueline Houston, a Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Public Health (MPH) concurrent degree student, has been accepted into the Florida Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholars program for the 2023-2025 cohort. AHEC Scholars is a competitive national initiative supported by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration which prepares students in a variety of health disciplines to transform their collaboration on interprofessional primary healthcare teams. Houston is one of only 150 students in Florida who were selected.
The two-year program includes 40 hours of didactic online research and 40 hours of clinical training serving rural and medically underserved populations. Inspired by the existing partnership between her field placement site at the Florida Center for Survivors of Torture and the 国产短视频Refugee Clinic, Houston sees the AHEC Scholars program as an incredible opportunity to improve the holistic health of torture survivors.
Houston is eager to enrich her MSW clinical practicum and strengthen the continuum of care for torture survivors in the Tampa Bay area over the next two years.
