Research and Publications

Research Interests

Our lab pioneered research in nanometer-scale pore-based detection, characterization, and quantification of single molecules.  This work led to two different methods for sequencing DNA, the ability to discriminate between molecules based on size, a technique for single molecule thermodynamics and kinetics, and identifying proteins.

We are currently interested further developing nanopore-based protein identification, elucidating the mechanisms of bacterial virulence, developing novel methods for membrane protein structure determination, and storing and retrieving information in molecules.
