Dr. Tony Silvia is a journalism professor with a professional background in television news. He worked as a consumer reporter and news anchor at various television stations in local markets. Prior to joining 国产短视频St. Petersburg鈥檚 Department of Journalism and Media Studies as its Director in January 2006, Silvia served as chair of the University of Rhode Island鈥檚 department of journalism, director of the public relations studies program and coordinator of internships.
Silvia has produced a series of media issues programs for PBS and worked as a correspondent for CNN, based in Atlanta, Georgia, while completing a faculty fellowship with the network. His work for CNN鈥檚 science-technology features unit was recognized nationally by an award from the Broadcast Education Association. Silvia has also garnered three Emmy Award nominations and an Associated Press Award for best documentary. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Silvia teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in communication ethics, sports journalism, advanced reporting, and race, gender and class in the media. He has authored more than two dozen articles published in both academic and industry journals, and regularly presents lectures and workshops at universities, in newsrooms and for non-profit organizations nationwide. Silvia has published six books, including 鈥淩obert Pierpoint: A Life at CBS News鈥 and 鈥淜ing of Blue Eyed Soul,鈥 the biography of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician Felix Cavaliere. His most recent book is about journalists who have dyslexia.
